When is Eurovision 2027?

The 71st Eurovision Song Contest has three live shows at Arena Burgas: the first semi-final on Tuesday 11 May, the second on Thursday 13 May and the Grand Final on Saturday 15 May 2027. Six more Preview Shows run between Monday 10 May and Saturday 15 May, per the EBU's host city announcement of 13 August 2026.

Bulgaria won the 2026 contest in Vienna with DARA's "Bangaranga", its first win. Burgas was then picked from four candidate cities (Burgas, Sofia, Varna and Plovdiv) by host broadcaster Bulgarian National Television (BNT), the EBU and outside experts. Bulgaria has hosted Junior Eurovision before (Sofia, 2015), but never the main event.

The EBU and BNT have not published which Preview Show falls on which day. If you only care about the Grand Final, plan to arrive by Friday 14 May. If you want the full week, the official window runs from Monday 10 May, so a 10 to 16 May stay covers every show.

When do Eurovision 2027 tickets go on sale?

No sale date has been announced. Eurovision.com says "more information on tickets will be revealed in the coming months", and BNT says on-sale dates, categories and prices will come later. To enter the sale you must register as a Eurofan, the free official fan club, and switch on ticket alerts in your account.

Past editions give a rough guide, not a date. These are the official figures for the last two contests:

EditionFirst sale openedHow fast it went
Vienna 202613 January 2026Grand Final sold out in 14 minutes; all tickets within an hour
Basel 202529 January 2025First wave: live shows sold out within 7 minutes, Preview Shows within 20

Both sales opened in January, about four months before the contest. If Burgas follows the pattern, expect a sale around early 2027, but treat that as a pattern only. Sign up as a Eurofan now, and ignore any site selling 2027 "tickets" before the official sale opens.

The practical point for travellers: you will probably need a room before you know whether you have a ticket. That is the reason to book refundable rates.

Is there enough hotel space in Burgas in May?

Less than the summer figures suggest. Bulgaria's National Statistical Institute counted 253 accommodation establishments open in Burgas province in May 2026, with 70,468 bed-places, against 925 establishments and 140,360 bed-places in July 2026. May beds were only 15.7% occupied, but many seasonal resorts had not opened yet.

This is the number most Eurovision guides skip. The Burgas coast is one of Bulgaria's big summer destinations, but May sits before the season. Here is what the official statistics show for the province, which includes Burgas city, Pomorie, Nessebar, Sunny Beach and Sozopol:

In May 2026, the Burgas province had half the beds it had in July, in barely more than a quarter of the establishments. Source: National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria, May and July 2026 releases.

Two readings matter. First, the 15.7% figure is a normal May, not a Eurovision May: tens of thousands of fans and crew will change that. Second, the places open in May are mostly larger hotels (about 280 beds per establishment on average, against about 150 in July), so smaller guesthouses in resort towns may still be shut. Some will open early for the contest, but no one has published how many. BNT's own FAQ says detailed hotel capacity figures "will be provided as operational planning progresses".

The safe move is a refundable room now. Check live availability: Burgas hotels on Navoy.

Where should you stay for Eurovision 2027?

Burgas centre is the easiest base: about 4.5 km and 9 minutes by road from the arena. Pomorie is the closest alternative at about 21 minutes, and Nessebar, Sunny Beach and Sozopol all sit 35 to 41 minutes away. Driving times are without traffic, so allow far more on show nights.

We measured the road route from each base to Arena Burgas (Stefan Stambolov Boulevard) on OpenStreetMap routing data, 6 October 2026:

BaseRoad distance to Arena BurgasDrive time, no trafficGood for
Burgas centre (Central station)4.5 km9 minWalking to fan events, trains and buses
Burgas Airport (BOJ)9.7 km18 minLate arrivals
Pomorie17.8 km21 minQuieter seafront, short hop
Nessebar33.5 km35 minOld town, UNESCO site
Sunny Beach35.6 km36 minLarge resort hotels
Sozopol35.9 km41 minOld town on a peninsula, south coast

Our reading: stay in Burgas if you have tickets for several shows, because you avoid a long late-night return trip after every show. Choose Nessebar, Sunny Beach or Sozopol if Burgas sells out or you want a beach week around one show. On busy nights, the 35-minute drive can easily double.

Do you need a visa, and what currency does Bulgaria use?

Bulgaria has been a full Schengen member since 1 January 2025, when land border checks were lifted, and it adopted the euro on 1 January 2026 at 1.95583 leva to the euro. Visa rules are the same as for the rest of the Schengen area, and you pay in euros.

If you can visit France or Spain without a visa, the same applies to Bulgaria, within the Schengen limit of 90 days in any 180. Most non-EU visitors are registered in the EU's Entry/Exit System at the external border, which records a facial image and, for most adults, fingerprints. ETIAS, the EU travel authorisation, is not in operation yet; our ETIAS guide tracks it.
